- April 2008, Hexagon’s NIR-Plan was chosen by a Latin–America operator for GSM and UMTS planning and optimization.
Hexagon announces that a large operator in Latin-America which is part of a large cellular group that owns many operators around the world has selected Hexagon’s NIR planning and optimization family of products.
The operator decided to replace its old planning tool for GSM with Hexagon’s NIR which includes both RF network planning and ACP (automatic cell planning and optimization) modules, supporting an integrated network composed of both GSM and UMTS.
- January 2008, Hexagon announces successful deployment of HAWK geo-location system at a governmental agency for homeland security.
The HAWK system provides real-time geo-location of individual mobiles for homeland safety surveillance purposes, and for emergency services such as 911.
This is the second system of Hexagon that goes into full production at a governmental agency for such purpose.
Hexagon’s HAWK can be integrated with any surveillance system, and is sold via large system integrators and large vendors of surveillance systems.
It is the only system in the world that provides a 3D geo-location, I.e. it identifies whether the mobile is located in-building, or out-building in a stationary mode or moving vehicle, and in case of in-building it can identify the exact floor within the building.
- June 2008, Hexagon’s NIR-Event was chosen by a Tier-1 operator in Asia for UMTS geo-location and network optimization.
Hexagon announces that a Tier-1 operator in Asia selected Hexagon’s NIR-Event, after a successful trial.
The trial was conducted in a downtown area of a large city with many high-rising buildings.
The operator recorded several hundred of thousands of events from the network over a few days. The data was loaded into NIR-Event which quickly performed accurate geo-location of each event in a 3D manner, enabling the operator engineers to visualize individual and concentration of issues on a 3D map (containing buildings), such as dropped calls, move from UMTS to GSM, Pilot Pollution, as well as a full accurate EC and EC/Io 3D coverage maps generated from the mobile measurements.
These events actually serve as virtual drive test, and save the operator the need to perform real drive test from that point on.
The virtual drive test data was then loaded to NIR-Event 3D ACP module, which quickly calculated recommendations for network optimization, including neighbor list changes, tilt and azimuth changes, and active set optimization. The operator then implemented the recommendations to achieve a double digit improvement in drop rate and other network KPI’s. NIR-Event is available also for GSM and CDMA-2000 networks.
